Twelve Year Girl To Make Her Professional MMA Debut In Japan

A twelve year old girl known only as MoMo will make her professional Mixed Martial Arts debut in three weeks in Japan. She will be tasked with fighting a twenty four year old who weighs a full ten pounds more than she does which is exacerbated by the fact that they both weigh less than a hundred pounds to begin with. Momo weighing 85 Lbs and her opponent, Momoko Yamazaki, weighing in at 95 lbs. Thankfully, striking to the head while on the ground will not be allowed and both fighters will be wearing headgear. However, all standard regulations and rules will be in place for the fight with the exception of the catch-weight at which both fighters have agreed to fight.

How is something like this even in the realm of possibility you ask? Well, in Japan these sorts of fights have little to no regulations in place regarding a situation like this so it’s sort of a loophole so to speak. As for MoMo herself, she was bullied for almost all of her life in school. So, she obviously started training in mixed martial arts at a very young age. That being said, she has only been training (including very basic martial arts training as a child) for just under seven years.

The fight will be held at “Deep Jewels 16” on May 20th. MoMo trains out of Hakuhinkai Karate, which is a fairly notable Japanese training center and program. The event is expected to sell out quickly as soon as tickets go on sale and will be televised in Japan.

Young Bangkok Woman Becomes World’s Youngest MMA Champion

At the age of nineteen Angela Lee secured the ONE Championship women’s atomweight title which made her the youngest MMA champion in the world. This was no easy task and the world has been put on notice to recognize Ms. Lee’s incredible accomplishment. Lee has been fighting since she was she was a very small child and fights in the atomweight division which is the lightest weight division that is widely recognized in mixed martial arts globally. This poses a strong risk for all fighters in this division because at about 110 pounds each these fighters are at a high risk of injury due to their weight combined with the much faster pace of the fights in which they compete.

Lee has become one of the most renowned fighters in Asia and is know gaining a bunch of international attention as well. Her whole family always trained in martial arts and she was no exception – she said she has practiced martial arts for as long as she can remember. It was her father who got her to train in various different disciplines of martial arts so as to give her the most diverse foundation possible. This is really what she credits as helping her the most in MMA.

After she earned her championship last year Lee went on to get rewarded handsomely and is now one of the top paid women in MMA across the world. She is now only looking forward in her career, still only twenty years old. Next, she intends to continue fighting for her Evolve team in the ONE league. After a few more fights she is considering a possible jump in a weight class which potentially help propel her to the ranks of the Ultimate Fighting Championship one day. However, until that day comes she has said she is definitely enjoying basking in her moment.

Anderson Silva VS Conor Mcgregor!?!

Anderson Silva hasn’t won a fight in over three long years but he’s still as much of a competitor as he’s ever been. He’s now eyeing a mega-fight with superstar Conor McGregor. Yes, you read that correctly a fight between current UFC pride Conor “Notorious” McGregor and all-time UFC legend Anderson “The Spider” Silva. Now, let’s be honest there’s almost zero chance this will ever even come close to happening but it is fun to think about and that is exactly what Anderson Silva is doing.

Silva does have an actual fight coming up on February 11th in Brooklyn at UFC 208 against Derek Brunson. But he’s still thinking about the potential super-fight with McGregor. “I’d like to test myself against Conor because he’s an interesting martial artist,His stand-up game is an intelligent game. Not because he’s champion now, but for the martial arts challenge. I’d like to see how these stand-up techniques, his and mine, would mix, and how that would go. But not to fight for a belt or anything like that. For the challenge, an interest, that thing about knowing how a fight like this would go” said Silva of the potential bout.

The problem is that the two would need to compete at a catch-weight. McGregor is currently competing at 155 pounds but did fight Nate Diaz twice in the past year and a half at 170 pounds. Silva normally competes at 185 pounds but feels he could get down to as low as 178 or even 175 pounds in order to fight McGregor. So it remains a possibility but a distant one at that. So far, McGregor has not commented on this possible fight and nothing else has been heard of it.

NY Boxing Title Fights Are In Trouble Thanks To MMA

Mixed martial arts were just legalized in New York a few weeks ago and already having far reaching effects. Some, however, aren’t so good. Part of the legalization of MMA entailed that insurance costs and coverage for combat sports would increase five fold. Due to this many promoters have said on the record that they can no longer afford the insurance bond and will take their business outside of the state.

New York has already lost one title fight to Pennsylvania because of the issue. With the high likelyhood of a massive success for the UFC’s first New York bouts in early November there is no end in sight for the higher insurance costs. This likely means lower to mid-level title fights will be held in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Connecticut from now on with New York only holding prime level title fights that are able to easily recoup any lost insurance costs.

No comment has been made by the WBC or UFC at this time.
